[opensuse-wiki] new layout problems
the new layout have several (minor but unpleasant) bugs. In Konqueror, french page only, _when not connected_ the sidebar is rejected under the footer (there is a large gap between the logo and the "rechercher" word. may be a following of the footer problem? on any page, the logo is no more a link to the front page. Only the bottom (the part saying "opensuse") is a link. This is not good, its confusing. lokk like the logo is not at the good place. In fact the logo is too hight, the top gray bar should continue until the left margin. The right column is aligned with the first line of central text (The openSUSE project is a worldwide comm) and it can't be other, because its the top of the user page. like this the left and right columns are completely unaligned, very odd. The character size of the right column CSS is much too large (or the column width - 180 pixels- too small and so the "opensuse-translation" text don't wrap and any text of more than 5/6 words wrap excessively. note that the with seems to be now given in the css, I can't change it from the front page (or I missed something) the width of the opensuse logo is too big, it outpasses the with of the sidebar (a little) this is visible when one clic on the link (a black line appears) - may be a large part of the problems is here, when one clic on the logo one can see there is a very large blank unusefull part around the lizard. I really think the openSUSE logo should be separated more from the "search" word thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki-help@opensuse.org

hmm, I have tested with Konqueror 3.5.3 and everything looks OK. Can you send me a screenshot?

Yes, a wrong z-index value - see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=191184 (these two problems are related) I have already fixed it on the staging server, the fix will go to production in a few hours.
In fact the logo is too hight,
also fixed.
the top gray bar should continue until the left margin.
Yup, see below.
The right column is aligned with the first line of central text (The openSUSE project is a worldwide comm) and it can't be other, because its the top of the user page. like this the left and right columns are completely unaligned, very odd.
That's true, because the page's headline is placed via template - thus ensuring it is present on each page. Therefore the headline cannot be placed inside the table on the front page, sorry. I do not think this can be changed - unless there is a special wiki markup option I do not know of.
The character size of the right column CSS is much too large (or the column width - 180 pixels- too small and so the "opensuse-translation" text don't wrap and any text of more than 5/6 words wrap excessively. note that the with seems to be now given in the css, I can't change it from the front page (or I missed something)
I have changed the width of the right column from 9.8 to 12em with the
css fix that will be published tonight. If this is still too narrow,
you may add a custom width by adding
style="width:
the width of the opensuse logo is too big, it outpasses the with of the sidebar (a little) this is visible when one clic on the link (a black line appears) - may be a large part of the problems is here, when one clic on the logo one can see there is a very large blank unusefull part around the lizard.
Right, I will edit the logo.
I really think the openSUSE logo should be separated more from the "search" word
Yes, this has also been fixed. -- Regards Frank (Fsundermeyer on OpenSUSE) Frank Sundermeyer, SUSE LINUX GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, D-90409 Nuernberg Tel: +49-911-74053-0, Fax: +49-911-7417755; http://www.novell.com/ "Reality is always controlled by the people who are most insane" Dogbert --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki-help@opensuse.org

I had this problem too, but unfortunately didn't make a screenshot. After a reload, everything looks fine (besides the things I reported in bugzilla ;-) - so I guess there was an outdated CSS file in my browser's cache. -> to reproduce: find a browser that has visited en.opensuse.org shortly before the skin update (but not in the last days) and you will see the problem. Hmm, I just wonder about the cache time... (sometimes it's useful that I can "speak" HTTP ;-) # telnet en.opensuse.org 80 Trying 130.57.4.24... Connected to en.opensuse.org. Escape character is '^]'. GET /skins/monobook/main.css HTTP/1.1 Host: en.opensuse.org Connection: close HTTP/1.1 200 OK Last-Modified: Mon, 05 Dec 2005 22:10:49 GMT Accept-Ranges: bytes Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2006 22:38:01 GMT Server: Apache ETag: "15943cd-5264-3105cc40" Expires: Wed, 09 Aug 2006 22:38:01 GMT ^^^^^^^^^^^ :-( This means the CSS files are delivered with a 30 day cache lifetime and _many users_ will need to reload the page :-( Please - reduce the cache lifetime in the Apache configuration to a reasonable value (IMHO some hours max. - compared to the wiki pages, you shouldn't notice the additional load) - force a reload of the CSS files by (temporarily, for about a month) adding "?reload=1" to the filenames in the <link> tags. This is an ugly hack to invalidate the browser cache, but better than a broken layout in the next 25 days...

I'm glad to hear this - but please include the ?reload hack from above also. Regards, Christian Boltz --

At least it is one of the CSS files that are used ;-)

The cache lifetime is the same (30 days) for this file :-( Regards, Christian Boltz --
Außerdem läuft [KDE 3.2] beta2 stabiler als es Win98 jemals war ;-) Und? Wo ist da die Besonderheit?! Fast jedes andere grafische System läuft stabiler als Windows 9x :-) [> Christian Boltz und Tobias Weisserth in suse-linux]
