stable version translation
to help in translating the stable version table, I made this template: http://fr.opensuse.org/Modèle:Version_stable to be used like this http://fr.opensuse.org/Version_Stable Hopefully it will not be broken by next version, but anyway it's easier to edit a template than the page itself. also we should have some way to have these tables sometime in advance for translation purpose, thanks this table is pretty difficult to translate. In fact it's nearly impossible to just edit the translated one when a modif is done on the english one. I tried to make an other way template (like a po file), but this was pretty difficult, and may not work for non european langages. any idea welcome :-) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

I had my own ideas on this table. My version is here: http://en.opensuse.org/User:Pflodo/Work_in_Progress I am not 100% sure yet how mine works in all browsers. It is of course essential that a download page works in 100% of browsers (including text based ones). Peter 'Pflodo' Flodin

I know, but I try not to be too invasive on the english wiki. I'm already very present (specially on the fr wiki, of course) I don't want the wiki to be the jdd's one :-) pflodo and you are, in my opinion, more valuable contributors for the english wiki (not to mention many others) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

I edited http://en.opensuse.org/Template:ReleasesTable and that has been reversed. That was linked on the Download page. http://en.opensuse.org/Released_Version#Downloads and http://en.opensuse.org/Download are basically the same thing. So instead of having two versions. It would be better to have one {{ReleasesTable}} and that was the one I edited. They both look bad now. Why have two similar things look so bad? I changed it and now it is changed back. :-(

I am not. If I am called a valuable contributor then the wiki is in prety bad shape. :-( -- houghi http://houghi.org http://www.plainfaqs.org/linux/ http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html

Exactly, that's the reason why I reverted it. I hope your intention was not to remove any traces of retail version, 10.2, Live-DVD and Factory as you did.
http://en.opensuse.org/Released_Version#Downloads and http://en.opensuse.org/Download are basically the same thing.
No, look closer! The table on Downloads (also included into Users_FAQ btw) details the different versions, editions and media/installation ways. The Released_Version table are download links to media of download edition. Bye, Steve

Come on, no one said it was bad, Stephan and me totally agree that the version with icons does look much better. Stephan just thought that it should be done in the other table. Would that be okay with you ? bye adrian -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE Linux Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nuernberg, Germany email: adrian@suse.de

Because the table on Release_Version is *not* Template:ReleasesTable which Houghi changed but a *complete different* which is contained in page source. Bye, Steve

not that difficult. Notice that this was not my concern, I only add the distro relevant part of the path in template {{{1}}} and {{{2}}}, in the hope to have only this to translate :-). In this respect, the new proposed template is not si different from the other (a little, though) in this table there are two parts that can be "templated": * as I did, th distribution name in the path. It occures twice, in the path and in the file name * the text to translate. It's what I meant when I said about "po" file. A po file is roughly a file with the english original text and just below the translation. The programs look at the Locale and take the good po file. Then they parse te code and replace all occurence of the english text by the translated one. with a template, the first solution (mine) needs only two variables (path and filename), but it relies on the media system, the second is more general, but there are several variables and the wiki don't use true po files jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos
houghi: I see this in the history: 16:57, 25 May 2006 Beineri (revert, sure that you didn't want to change the table on Released_Version page) you should assert your change in the discussion page. however, this template is _not_ linked, to this page at least: http://en.opensuse.org/Released_Version#Downloads jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

I know. If they did not like it, I can't be botherd to discuss it or change it back or whatever. I thought it looked better and that it was better. Somebody else thought something else. Fine. The other person gets what he wants. I am not going into a yes/no better/worse discussion about this. Either things change on the wiki, or they don't. It seems they don't.
however, this template is _not_ linked, to this page at least:
I am not going to change it just so somebody can changes it back because of whatever reason. I am realy starting to loose interest quickly in the wiki. A lot of small discussions and nothing realy serious is being done. Almost since day one we are asking for a new frontpage. The only thing we have so far is that we all agree that it should change. W00t! I realy get to the point that I can't be botherd anymore wether the wiki works out or not. Will be back when something is realy done. No more discussion. Now is the time for action. -- houghi http://houghi.org http://www.plainfaqs.org/linux/ http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html

Can you please stop acting like a child and start thinking about whether you did really change the right page or a wrong one as hinted above? Thanks, Steve
