[opensuse-wiki] Import/Export For All Groups
Hello All, In response to "New wiki, what now?" article on news.opensuse.org, someone commented on the fact that the import/export functionality is not available to most users. I wanted to point this out to the wiki team so that you can decide among yourselves whether you wish to keep it this way. There is obviously a lot of potential for abuse and quality issues if this function is available to all users. On the other hand, a lot of people might care about preserving the history of the articles and will not be happy if they have no way of doing it. Perhaps the best route might be to do something in between. I could delegate the Import/Export functions to a group such as "Editors", and let them decide on which pages to import into the new wiki. Then we can let the average user know whom they can contact to request an import. This is what I would personally suggest. In addition, it was pointed out that there is an open bug to add an extension for protecting user pages. I'm going to try this out on stage, and if no one has any objections, commit it to the repository and deploy it to production. Now if I can just remember my Berlios credentials... :D -Matt
Well, I believe the "official" way was (and probably still is), check if an article is to be transfered (review it). While doing this mark it with {{InReview}}, so nobody messes with your article in the meantime. Do this with http://old-en.opensuse.org/Transition_guidelines in mind. And then mark it for transfer with {{Reviewed}} if you want to have it transferred. This will add the article to the "Checked Articles" category. Admins then will transfer the article to the new wiki. This progress is already a few months old, so people had plenty of time to let there articles transfer. If you are sure an article has became obsolete, or does not contain any usefell information what so ever, mark it with {{NoTransfer}}, so people know they don't have to start reviewing it again. I have to admit the "Checked Articles" is now chaotic and still includes articles that already are transferred. So I will now start to clean up the dirt, so we can continue this process of transferring. (Which in my opinion works fine) Greeting, Tim 2010/7/13 Matthew Ehle <mehle@novell.com>:

I think that's a good idea. At the moment we have enabled the import for all users so they can import their missing pages, but I support your idea.
