[opensuse-wiki] Sorting templates in openSUSE wiki, help needed.
One of (many) tasks would to sort templates. It is really hard to find one when you need it. The http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Template_Messages I picked up the list from: http://en.opensuse.org/index.php?title=Special%3AAllpages&from=&namespace=10 and sorted a bit: http://en.opensuse.org/User:Rajko_m/wip There is 255 templates as of today. Many should be deleted [1], the rest should be sorted like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Template_messages There is also need to create some, in order to simplify usage of new predefined classes. That is actually the reason to sort existing. Ideas? Hands? ;-) [1] to delete: * all Version/[100|101|102|Latest|Factory]/<program name> * Template:Version it produced all above until it was disabled * Template:AR-ترجمة wrong naming * Template:ترجمة wrong naming * Template:ترجمة الوثائق wrong naming ** Funny with arabic text in KMail is how to add ]] (square brackets) at the end of the line ;-) * Template:Преводи wrong naming * Template:DA-Where to find Help obsolete * Template:DownloadArch-RO wrong naming * Template:OpenSUSE Style Guide Transrations (already marked) * Template:PT-BR-DownloadArch and other PT-BR; guys will use PT wiki. There is probably more obsolete templates. -- Regards, Rajko. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

Thanks. Im looking in templates what they do to get some idea what categories of templates to create. For instance: Template:Susedoc:guimenu is {} Instead of italic text now you have to write: to get the same italic text. Besides using colon as separator can have funny effects one day someone decide to create namespace 'Susedoc' which is not out of mind. We probably need one. We should sort out templates in sections: == Used == That are linked (Toolbox:What links here) so there is need to be careful even if they can be deleted otherwise. == Unused == Mostly can be deleted. http://en.opensuse.org/Special:Deadendpages lists only Main namespace. I would add comments to each template. I created http://en.opensuse.org/Portal/Templates as we need it anyway. -- Regards, Rajko. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

i think the sorting in http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Template_Messages is more efficient, why don't we complete that list with more categorisation? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

OK. It looks good. Table is somewhat wide and Miscellaneous was out of frame when Konqueror opened the page, I had to widen window to bring it back. Maybe to limit table to 3 columns. This problem is why I attempted to go with simple layout that will list templates in table of content and actual template in its own paragraph. Second problem is how to give meaning to rows in a table and to mark them clearly that they are rows. Give me a day to think about. I like compact table layout, but it is harder to deal with. -- Regards, Rajko. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

i've tried it with a smaller window, and i got the same effect, reducing columns should be pretty easy though..

Sorry, I didn't meant to stop you. I was too tired and I needed break for me to sort ideas. Do whatever you find necessary, I'll be there to help as much as time permits. I like first column. A bit stronger title "Information" and it will look as example for another 1 or 2. Depends on length of template names. BTW, Template messages is correct article title. English is my (hmm...) say second language and I check grammar with sources that know better than I do, in this case Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Template_messages The table that they have looks good on screen way bigger that 17". On mine second column title is 3 rows, and separator is not in line with other columns. I didn't want to spoil you enthusiasm and revert present title to Template messages without your consent. -- Regards, Rajko. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

good, i'll just reduce the number of columns to three just to be on the safe side, and as for the naming, i realised it could be the right expression since wikipedia uses it as well, so no harm in reverting it back to how it was originally, i've done it myself, but apparently undoing moves doesn't work as smoothly as i hoped, please do it for me if you can, and mark the other one for deletion, other than that i'm good to go, just tell me if you have any suggestions on how to make the page more visible for wiki roamers, i don't want it to end up as another page in the wiki-wasteland =) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

AHH! i created a mess, i actually redirected the newly named to the wrong address creating a third page instead of reverting it back!! With admin rights I can't help much :-) I'm normal user as most of us. http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Templates http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Template_Messages When you put template delete on some page don't blank it, ie. delete content and save that way, unless content is really big problem. This way sysop that has to delete article can see on the spot what is the problem, not to look in article history first. I returened previous version, just as an example. http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Templates_Messages Page created by mistake can be deleted only by one of sysops, and by now they are only Novell employees. There was word about other guys getting sysop rights, but other projects, including 10.3 had higher priority and that fall off the todo list :-) -- Regards, Rajko. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org
