I made a small change in the IW template, I think is interesting http://en.opensuse.org/Template:IW http://en.opensuse.org/Templates remember that this template, inserted at the end of a page, setu the interwiki links for all the localized wikis. I added a category in the template; Attention, this don't show, you must edit the template to see it (and it's why I make this post) the result is that as soon as a page with this template in get edited it show in the http://en.opensuse.org/Category:IW page. jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos
Hi, 2006/2/21, jdd <jdd@dodin.org>:
I made a small change in the IW template, I think is interesting
http://en.opensuse.org/Template:IW http://en.opensuse.org/Templates
remember that this template, inserted at the end of a page, setu the interwiki links for all the localized wikis.
I have a doubt about templates. In this case, the IW template is prepared to show in english pages the link to the other localized pages so, what is the procedure to do the same in the other languages? I mean, in the spanish side, I have to create the same template changing the "es" by "en". How can I do that? Regards, -- Jesús González

the best way to understand templates is to go to the templates pages I linked in my previous mail franche: http://fr.opensuse.org/Modèles and to begin to translate this one, fitting it with your needs. I begun like this with the pflodo english templates page (very nice, thanks). for the IW template, the spanish one should be something like that: fr:{} en:{} de:{} of course I'm hoping help from others translators :-), I'm very new in template writting but I think this one is really a must for the translators. and yes, , we should share most of our experience as translators., for example the translator guide needs to be pretty different for localized wikis than for the others (localized will never host JP- or pp_pb pages). jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

I must be doing something wrong. I have created the IW template in spanish http://es.opensuse.org/Plantilla:IW Inserting IW in a page is translated right to the content of the template, but this text is shown at the end of the page and not at the left of the page as the interwiki links, as I expected. I am trying this in the spanish "Templates" page, you can see the results at the end http://es.opensuse.org/Plantillas -- Jesús González

to use the template, you must type nameofthe english page there is a parameter in the template (the name of the english page) and say what you think of the use of the template (once you have tried it :-) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

The parameter! yes. I was thinking how this template could work and I thought that the parameter was the name of the page. Now, I understand that and it is working right. By the way, other templates (in opensuse.org/Templates) specify that you need to put a parameter while this is not specified in this case. and say what you think of the use of the template (once you
have tried it :-)
I think that for me is easier to use the IW template that having to check if exist a translated page in other languages (fr, de) and put the name of that pages, and this links with you other thread "page naming and translations". For a point of view of a person who only translates a very few pages, it is very difficult to think in the relationships of the page I am translating with the other languages. I only care about the translation I am doing and I don't even think in putting a link to other languages, so we have to find an easy way to do the interwiki links. -- Jesús González
