[opensuse-wiki] Just a comment on the wiki
Hey guys.. just wanted to comment on the work on the oS Wiki... it's really shaping up nice. You can see a lot of hard work has gone into bringing it this far... it's got a long ways to go yet :-) As someone who's been on the sidelines a lot just watching... I'm wondering... how can the rest of the community lend a hand with the migration? Moving pages isn't really a task that can be parceled out... or is it? What other tasks are sitting waiting to be done? When was the last "reminder" or status update sent out to the general oS community (was it lost in the general mailing list chaos)? How many out there know about http://en.opensuse.org/Help:Transfer ? An one last question... what about a headline on the openSUSE Weekly? Just trying to think how I and others can contribute... and raise some awareness/help instead of just seeing complaints. Thanks. Appreciated :-)

Of course!

Of course if can be. You can just familiarize yourself with the new wiki (Portal:Wiki and the news.o.o postings) and begin to transfer pages/media that you miss or go through these list http://en.opensuse.org/Special:WantedPages http://en.opensuse.org/Special:WantedFiles
What other tasks are sitting waiting to be done?
The standard wiki tasks. 1. Improve content of Pages you come across or go through these lists http://en.opensuse.org/Category:Pages_to_cleanup http://en.opensuse.org/Category:Pages_that_need_expanding 2. Categorize pages and media you come across. Or go through these lists http://en.opensuse.org/Special:UncategorizedPages http://en.opensuse.org/Special:UncategorizedFiles 3. Fix other problems. There are various lists of things that are wrong http://en.opensuse.org/Special:BrokenRedirects http://en.opensuse.org/Special:DoubleRedirects http://en.opensuse.org/Special:UnusedFiles
When was the last "reminder" or status update sent out to the general oS community (was it lost in the general mailing list chaos)?
Last month when we switched. Darn that was fast. You are right, we should update this :)
How many out there know about http://en.opensuse.org/Help:Transfer?
How would we know that?
An one last question... what about a headline on the openSUSE Weekly?
Sounds good to me but who takes care about this? Henne -- Henne Vogelsang, openSUSE. Everybody has a plan, until they get hit. - Mike Tyson -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

Right, but to transfer pages with full history, don't I need Wiki Admin rights? Or has this been changed on the oS Wiki?

:-) My experience with OOo tells me that constant periodic reminders are needed to keep things visible.. otherwise they fall into the general noise of a project.

Umm.. well I was thinking in terms of an update to the general community... a reminder/pointer to Help:Transfer. I've been doing some digging during my lunch and coffee breaks, and came across the oS News article you wrote recently Henne... and it was full of great info... that I somehow managed to miss if it was ever announced. I think that's the problem with opensource project contributions.. interest rises and falls amongst the various members (it's a challenge I face in OOo). Reminders bring it back to those who's interest is rising.. who missed it last time it was mentioned.
An one last question... what about a headline on the openSUSE Weekly?

I'd be willing if I was more involved... but since I don't really know what's up, and what's where just yet, I'm prob not the best choice right now. C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org
