This page basically sounds like it has been the draft for
RevisionDelete.

Indeed, that isn't a real option for the main page ;-)
Thomas, can you please enable RevisionDelete? If I get
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/RevisionDelete right, you should add
$wgGroupPermissions['sysop']['deleterevision'] = true;
to LocalSettings.php
(If this doesn't fit the needs, we can still go for the Oversight
extension.)
