[opensuse-web] software.opensuse.org/search unusably slow
Hi, a thread came up on Reddit about the slow performance of some openSUSE sites, especially the software search page: reddit.com/r/openSUSE/comments/8vpwi0/pingdom_test_opensuse_official_sites_are/ It takes a good 10 seconds load the initial search page, and then searches for packages often take several minutes to complete. I also often run into a "504 gateway" error. It feels like something more than just a visual refresh happened when the software search page was updated. Before, the old software search page was usually pretty snappy. But as soon as the visual design was changed, it got extremely sluggish. So I wonder if there was some kind of architectural change too that needs to be optimized. Thanks a lot. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-web+owner@opensuse.org
Hi, Thanks for your hints! Can you tell us your country, please? So we can search better for the issue. Best regards, Sarah

You should read the provided link. Hint: several countries. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.3 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)

Looks like they fixed it! The initial page load and the actual search query are now blisteringly fast. (It looks like they implemented some sort of a cache, because the first time I searched for an obscure package it took 5 - 10 seconds, but subsequent queries for the same package are instantaneous.) Thanks a lot! -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-web+owner@opensuse.org

yay, with joined forces, we gave the VM "a bit" more power and additionally fixed a bug in the script, which disabled some caching :). See pull-request mentioned on status.o.o and in reddit. Thanks a lot for beeing an active member and report issues to us =) - instead of "just posting on reddit". By the way, next time you want to report such an issue maybe directly to: admin@opensuse.org ^^ that's our ticket system. Thanks again.
