[opensuse-web] retire bad wiki page
https://en.opensuse.org/HCL:Video last edit date 6.5 years ago virtually everything on that page is obsolete video driver names except for one have all been changed years ago automagic works for most people not using Optimus for anyone not already familiar with openSUSE and is shopping for a distro, seeing this page would be a very bad omen It needs to be either retired (my vote), or rewritten from scratch (I don't think it's relevant any more). Are any of the HCL: pages relevant any more? Should this have been sent instead to the heroes list? -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science. Team OS/2 ** Reg. Hi Felix, The Heroes Team is responsible for the System Administration and updated web applications, not for the content of the wiki. The content in the wiki has been created by the community. Therefore, we are responsible to update all. Do you know what to do there to update the wiki page? Then you are allowed to edit this. The alternative is marking such pages as obsolete or not maintained.

Instructions to do this are eluding me. Just "move" it there: https://en.opensuse.org/Special:MovePage/HCL:Video This feature is accessible on every page in the upper right area ("Read", "Edit", "Version History", small triangle symbol) of the new wiki theme. On the old one it should be somewhere near that as well. Regards, vinz. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-web+owner@opensuse.org

Indeed, moving those pages to the Archive: namespace is a good idea - thanks Vinzenz for explaining how to do that. Additionally, you should add the "Obsolete" template at the top of the page to make it clear that the page is outdated. See https://en.opensuse.org/Template:Obsolete for the template and how it looks like. You'll need to add something like {{Obsolete|11.1}} ("11.1" will replace the "{{{1}}}" part you see in the preview) Regards, Christian Boltz -- [how to name installation sources / repositories / catalogs / channels]
I add mine, +1 for repository. If you are looking for something new, try "(software) directory". Or to be even more innovative: Make this a configure option in YaST. [>> James Ogley, > Karl Eichwalter & Robert Schiele in opensuse-factory]

This I think I've done:
Move succeeded "HCL:Video" has been moved to "Archive:HCL:Video" A redirect has been created.
Dunno if I grok'd this "add" a template process appropriately: https://en.opensuse.org/Archive:HCL:Video Why does anyone's emailer prepend "Aw:" to a subject? Why does anyone's emailer prepend "Aw:" to a subject? What does it mean? That is the German email extension for "Antwort" which is a replacement for Re. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science.

Not really ;-) It looks like you copied the template code into the page instead of "calling" that template. The point of using templates is to maintain the "code" of the template at one place so that updating the template will update it everywhere. You can think of templates like functions in a programming language. You can also hand over parameters to templates, the syntax is (with several spaces added for readability): {{ template_name | parameter_1 | parameter_2 | ... }} Since you want to learn more about editing the wiki, I won't change the page myself, and only tell you should replace the template code you copied into the page with simply {{Obsolete|11.4}} Regards, Christian Boltz -- [SuSE 8.2] Auch die Paketverwaltung via YaST2 ist endlich einigermaßen brauchbar: Du kannst ein Paket auf ein permanentes "Tabu" setzen und - jetzt kommt die Überraschung - er überschreibt es _wirklich_ nicht! ;-) [René Matthäi in suse-linux] -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-web+owner@opensuse.org
I suggest to retire the page because it is almost impossible to follow new hardware. Replacement could be: make a hardware compatibility report app. Users can help to report compatibility of their own devices. Result will be published in a database. -- Guo Yunhe / @guoyunhe / guoyunhe.me 2019年2月13日 上午9:16 来自 mrmazda@earthlink.net:

I suggest to retire the page because it is almost impossible to follow new hardware.
Then we should retire/ remove the whole component list under HCL, because all is referenced to 11 versions or older.
Replacement could be: make a hardware compatibility report app. Users can help to report compatibility of their own devices. Result will be published in a database.
We have something as that for laptop and desktop hardware: https://en.opensuse.org/HCL:Laptops So you can enter your own compatibility there.
