[opensuse-web] openFATE
The openFATE system is a pain to use. Today's pains: 1-the input box ignores carriage returns, so the resulting description after submission is one big run-on instead of nicely formatted as paragraphs 2-most of the page has semi-visible text (darker gray on lighter gray instead of black on white) 3-new feature submission does not automatically subscribe the creator 4-upon creation it says: "Your feature has been created with the id 310658. Please subscribe at <link>hermes</link> if you want to receive notifications on feature changes." I went there, where it said: "There are no simple subscriptions configured, please use the expert interface. You can choose from a list of default notifications here. To configure more complex notifications, please use the <link>expert interface</link>." I went there, but couldn't figure out how to "subscribe" to my requested feature. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." We currently have on the opensuse-factory list a discussion on what needs to be done to real have openFATE as great tool. I'll add your points now to the wiki page where these things are summarized. http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Openfate_screening#What.27s_missing_to_make_... thanks, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Program Manager openSUSE, aj@{novell.com,opensuse.org} Twitter: jaegerandi | Identica: jaegerandi SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-web+help@opensuse.org

We are currently working on a new version of openfate. Please check the preview at https://features.opensuse.org/preview/ Note: this is already running on the real feature data.
3-new feature submission does not automatically subscribe the creator
What do you mean by subscribe? Email subscription? We have some plans for a better integration of hermes (the opensuse messaging service) and openfate, until then please subscribe on the hermes page.
4-upon creation it says: "Your feature has been created with the id 310658. Please subscribe at<link>hermes</link> if you want to receive notifications on feature changes." Seems there was something broken. I reloaded the hermes webapp and the gui is there again now. Looks good. Using Google Chrome and https://features.opensuse.org/preview/305877 for test purposes. 1) The tags still accept "software popularity" as "software, popularity" so either I don't understand how it should work, or it is not possible to add tags that are not a single word. When I try "software, popularity" entry is ignored, so I have to add one tag at the time. Using "software_popularity" is not a good option. I would like to see ability to add tags as "software popularity, popcon", which would add them as written. List should be comma separated instead of space separated, as it is now. 2) Links Edit [products|description|users|references], Reply, Add comment, should change to Cancel Edit [products|description|users|references], Cancel [Reply| comment] when in edit mode. Preview button is still wanted, before saving and, for consistency of user interface, it would be good to group all in one line: [Preview] [Save] [Cancel] Also, some time after adding comment, it should be possible to remove it by owner. 3) In Add comment [Switch richtext editor] doesn't work after Revert Changes, but it works after I leave the page and return. BTW, it is probably: "Switch to rich text editor". I'm not sure about proper capitalization. Paragraphs are created in a rich text editor, not in a plain text, and that is what Felix is complaining about. Parser for plain edit box is not adding paragraph tags. There must be something like user preferences, where one can set in advance what editor is used. 4) [Edit references] doesn't work. The only thing that I wanted to change was to create link instead of plain text for the second link. [Edit products] [Edit description] [Edit users] works and (IMO) it should not with normal user login. With reviewer, product manager, team lead, it should work. I guess that my login is normal user login? There is no way to see what is status of my openFATE account. **** All in all, I agree with Andreas that we should work on feature request process. When we are clear what we want then we can choose or design the tool. Have a look at bugzilla, there everybody can change everything - there are no restrictions at all and it just works. I hope it will work with openFATE as well - and if not, then let' s restrict those only... Today's new pain: https://features.opensuse.org/preview/feature/new has no place to input description. All that's shown there now for item #4 (description) is: <div> <!-- this is the backing field of the richtext editor --> <textarea id="descriptiontxt" name="description" cols="80" rows="18"></textarea> </div> -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Yes, the preview is not feature complete yet, I'm working on the 'create feature' page currently. Currently tags cannot have whitespace in it. If this is agreed, we can change this.
2) Links Edit [products|description|users|references], Reply, Add comment, should change to Cancel Edit [products|description|users|references], Cancel [Reply| comment] when in edit mode.
Ok, I have that on my list.
Preview button is still wanted, before saving and, for consistency of user interface, it would be good to group all in one line: [Preview] [Save] [Cancel]
Also, some time after adding comment, it should be possible to remove it by owner.
3) In Add comment [Switch richtext editor] doesn't work after Revert Changes, but it works after I leave the page and return. BTW, it is probably: "Switch to rich text editor". I'm not sure about proper capitalization.
Yes, seems to be a problem with the initialization of the mce editor.
Yes, the reference editor is work in progress.
[Edit products] [Edit description] [Edit users] works and (IMO) it should not with normal user login.
With reviewer, product manager, team lead, it should work. I guess that my login is normal user login? There is no way to see what is status of my openFATE account.
We currently do not support special roles for users, every user is able to fully edit the features (like in bugzilla). When we decide to have special roles we can add these restrictions.

All in all, I agree with Andreas that we should work on feature request process. When we are clear what we want then we can choose or design the tool.
We should have block diagram like one posted by Satoru: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/568187/openSUSE/openFATE/feature_handling_flow.odg but with more details.
