[opensuse-web] Replace our wordpress instances with some crowdsource blog
Hey, i just stumbled over grogger, a "Group Blog". http://getgrogger.com/ its a system that gives everybody the means to blog and vote for content. something like a dumbed down wp plus dig. That made me think about lizards and our whole weblog setup which is often rightly criticized. Currently we have the planet plus 3 wordpress instances (spotlight, news, lizards) which are differentiated by the exclusiveness of users who can post to them. So from all Members (lizards) to a somehow evolved crowd (news) to just the board and the community manager (spotlight). That feels like putting the cart (writers) before the donkey (readers). I think with a group blog and especially with something that allows crowdsourcing we can deliver more and better content to readers in an easier fashion and make the project more attractive. http://getgrogger.com/faqs/ "Grogs are FREE! And they always will be. However, we will eventually begin to charge for higher level uses of grogs ..." I would prefer an open-source solution that can be deployed on our servers. Not sure if the current lizards use Wordpress or Wordpress MU. If it is not already the MU we might want to look at it: http://mu.wordpress.org/ -- Best Regards / S pozdravom, Pavol RUSNAK SUSE LINUX, s.r.o openSUSE Boosters Team Lihovarska 1060/12 PGP 0xA6917144 19000 Praha 9, CR prusnak[at]suse.cz http://www.suse.cz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-web+help@opensuse.org

I'm sure they would love to support us...

Which misses all the social features of a group blog and the crowdsourcing. Its not about multiuser :) How far is bloging with toghq? Maybe we can add the dig-like features to connect. That might work, but integrating it into the rest of infra might be problematic. Still worth investigating.

There is a Tog plugin for this, but I haven't tried it yet. http://www.toghq.com/tog_plugins/2-tog_conversatio Featurelist on the page is quite impressive though. -- Best Regards / S pozdravom, Pavol RUSNAK SUSE LINUX, s.r.o openSUSE Boosters Team Lihovarska 1060/12 PGP 0xA6917144 19000 Praha 9, CR prusnak[at]suse.cz http://www.suse.cz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-web+help@opensuse.org

Some alternatives: Pligg (digg-like) http://www.pligg.com/ Elgg, social networking platform http://www.elgg.com/ BuddyPress.org, "social networking in a box" (WordPress-based) http://buddypress.org/ Open Atrium provides "group spaces to allow different teams to have their own conversations" http://openatrium.com/ Of course, all of them are open source ;-) Cheers, -- Javier Llorente
