[opensuse-virtual] VirtualBox windows-7 guest?
I need to re-install Windows-7 (Professional) due to changing the motherboard/CPU on my desktop system. I currently dual boot with OS 13.1 & Win-7. This creates a difficulty as currently I have windows installed on sdb and re-map using Grub. If I let windows install itself it will use sda which is where openSUSE is loaded thereby over-writing it. What type of guest container would make a good choice for installing windows and why? This will be my first use of VB so don't know if a physical partition or a virtual one would work better. I've read the VB users guide but don't understand some of the methods regarding guest accounts. Would the type of guest affect things like internet access or port (serial/USB) utilization? This is for my personal computer and has no vital programs or data involved. The current OS 13.1 is backed up to 2 different devices and could be restored if problems develop. Hi Tom, Don't Win7 let you choose the partition you put it ? I gave up Winchose long ago, so I'm not sure. Or did you mean "it will overwrite the boot loader" ? Anyway, if you do not play game I advise you VirtualBox too, very good product, powerful & simple. Use "create a virtual hard disk" instead of "raw hard disk". Don't be disappointed, "serial/USB" virtualization works for simple usages (missiles laucher :) ), but not really for heavy ones (webcams). I love VB, so do not hesitate to ask me :] -- : ` _..-=-=-=-.._.--. If you need a 'real' windows, why not switch the hard disks? openSUSE gives a damn about whether it is on sda or sdb. Of course, you'll have (or might have) to reinstall the bootloader after installing windows. But thats nothing a rescue disk could not solve...
