Hello Currently these lists only accept plain text e-mail and reject HTML mail. This is inconvenient and harms our community, specially newcomers whose e-mail client sends HTML mail by default (it's 2020, yes, HTML mail is the default for many clients). I have received complaints about this and I have been bitten by this myself. Is anyone against HTML mail? why? Please speak up until next Friday 13.03.2020. Simple HTML 2.0 mails are probably fine. I hope our ML software has an option to strip out embedded script fragments. CSS is probably ok, but if you allow Javascript there will be a risk.

But you can change this for many (all?) clients ;)

Not to mention HTML remote images and tracking. However keep in mind that I doubt we can filter this. It's either text plain or HTML with whatever else can be included.

IIRC not for our "friend" Outlook. That's what happens when buggy email clients are used :-D So FMPOV the problem is more not about being in 2020, but about giving support for broken clients.

Neither am I. If we decide to go this path, we need to ask the openSUSE Heroes as only they can change the setup for the lists and the software used to manage them. -- Julio González Gil Release Engineer, SUSE Manager and Uyuni jgonzalez@suse.com
Hello, Not against HTML but I do prefer plain text mail. Reasons: · People accessing with text-only clients · No induced remote downloads by HTML hrefs · Security · Tracking thanks for asking. best regards, -- -- -- Jordi Bruguera i Cortada - Freelance Systems and Open Source Specialist SUSE Enterprise Architect / Certified Instructor El dl 09 de 03 de 2020 a les 22:51 +0000, en/na Pau Garcia Quiles va escriure:

The real problem with the openSUSE mailing lists is that the mailing list software (mlmmj) doesn't handle multipart mail correctly. Most mail clients actually send "multipart" mail in both HTML and plain text forms, so clients can view it in their preferred form. However, the openSUSE mailing list software does not handle that well (it rejects on the detection of any HTML content instead of just stripping or filtering). I hope that once we transition from mlmmj to Mailman 3, this will be fixed. I personally have no problem with receiving and sending HTML mail. Most modern email clients have the same kind of protection for HTML mail that browsers have for websites (ignoring the fact that things like JavaScript tend to not be supported by most HTML email clients anyway). -- 真実はいつも一つ!/ Always, there's only one truth! -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: uyuni-users+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: uyuni-users+owner@opensuse.org
Hi there I think this is a mailing list and not a marketing platform. As a mailing list, it should be short, concise and informative and therefore, in my opinion, you don't need any HMTL. HMTL is "beautiful", can show pretty, colorful pictures, but is potentially unsafe, allows tracking and inflates the content unnecessarily. I have almost nothing against HTML, but I don't have to have it in a mailing list. If HTML, then please use HTML _AND_ plain text. Regards Thomas
