[opensuse] Panels in 11.2
As far as I can see, it is possible to add only applets to panels in v11.2, not applications. Have I missed something? If I have not, is there a way to replace this new version of panels with the kind that came with KDE3? I'm accustomed to keeping applications in a second panel; applets intereste me much less. -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi Stan, Just open the application launcher click R mouse and add to panel. I keep Krusader, kwallet, kate and evolution on the panel. If you add a second panel and you want to add non-widget application do the same (1) add the application launcher and (2) from there add the application. After you are done you can remove the application launcher (you do not need 2. -=terry=- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If you mean non-KDE application, you can check the thread "How to put non-KDE app icon on the KDE4 panel" (beginning of December). In short, there is a regression issue, but Will Stephenson suggested easy work-around: first add application to KDE menu (menu edit) and then you can add this application to panel, -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I mean both KDE apps and others. In v11.1, I have a second panel that contains nearly all the programs I use, and I have found that to be very convenient. I gather that this is what the "Desktop folder" is intended to be (more flexible, as I think I read somewhere), but I see no reason to rearrange the way I function because of a new jimgrack -- different strokes for different folks. I intend to remove the Desktop folder because it is superfluous, if I can find out how to do so without leaving traces. Putting apps on a panel was much more straightforward in v11.1. I cannot fathom the advantage of the change or what it contributes. Thanks for this additional workaround. -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

There is a rework of an old KDE3 addon idea that gives you an OSX-like panel that you dock all your common applications in (it also has a button for the regular KDE4 app menu). You can use it to replace the entire traditional KDE applications+panel concept and basically have the same general layout/concept as OSX uses. I've used it on at least one computer, and it works quite well. The KDE-Look page is here... http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/Fancy+Tasks?content=99737 and the Widget is in the KDE Community repos.. somewhere. Maybe this way of working with KDE4 will fit better with your way of working? Don't know... just putting it out there as an alternative :-) C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
