SIM/smart card reader
I've bought a generic USB-based SIM/smart card reader to see if I can read a SIM. It came without any useful instructions or software. I have no idea about the infrastructure of such software/hardware on linux. I've discovered and installed pcsc-lite and pcsc-ccid and pcsc-tools When I plug in the reader, it's reported in the journal: Jun 24 16:46:32 acer-suse kernel: usb 3-9.4.4.4: new full-speed USB device number 12 using xhci_hcd Jun 24 16:46:32 acer-suse mtp-probe[2189]: checking bus 3, device 12: "/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb3/3-9/3-9.4/3-9.4.4/3-9.4.4.4" Jun 24 16:46:32 acer-suse kernel: usb 3-9.4.4.4: New USB device found, idVendor=2ce3, idProduct=9563 Jun 24 16:46:32 acer-suse kernel: usb 3-9.4.4.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 Jun 24 16:46:32 acer-suse kernel: usb 3-9.4.4.4: Product: EMV Smartcard Reader Jun 24 16:46:32 acer-suse kernel: usb 3-9.4.4.4: Manufacturer: Generic Jun 24 16:46:32 acer-suse mtp-probe[2189]: bus: 3, device: 12 was not an MTP device pcscd is running but pcsc_scan just says Waiting for the first reader... Anybody know anything about these devices and can advise or point me to good documentation?

Are you sure your reader supports CCID?
When I plug in the reader, it's reported in the journal:

pcscd is running but pcsc_scan just says
Waiting for the first reader...
