The Linux partitions are 4,5Gb for / and the balance as swap. When using yast2 to do the install I was told I couldn'y have a dual boot system because of the 1024 saga :-( I thought I had read in here somewhere that this problem had been overcome. Is the problem because of hda1 containing windows ME and doesn't like anything else sharing the drive? Regards Mark Annandale

No, it's just the 1024 cylinder limit. The latest version of LILO doesn't have that limit any more, but wasn't included with SuSE. You can get hold of it here: ftp://ftp2.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/update/7.0/a1/lilo-21.6-9.i386.rpm Just go ahead with the install, ignoring all of the warnings, and not configuring LILO. When you've finished the install, you can install the new LILO, configure and run it, and all will be well. Be sure to put the lba32 option in /etc/lilo.conf. Hope that helps, Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\
As Chris told you already, it can be done with the newer version of LILO, but in my case it was not enough to install the new version. I had to add one line to lilo.conf with following content: lba32 Thats it. As an alternative, there is a different loader called GRUB which I switched to since it is a much more powerfull loader then LILO. It has an interactive console mode you can switch to just in case you made a mistake in the configuration file and your system will not load. Once you are in the console mode you can load the correct kernel and boot into the new system. BTW SuSE, can we get and RPM of GRUB in the 7.1? I added a 46Gb IDE hdd to a SuSE 6.2 box and it only shows 11Gb of the drive in Linux. I added a BIOS upgrade so the BIOS is now recognizing the entire disk but Linux isn't. I have put 20+ Gb disks into older Linux boxes than this before and had them work without anything more than the BIOS upgrade. Any suggestion what I'm doing wrong? Thanks. *^*^*^* Have the courage to take your own thoughts seriously, for they will shape you. -- Albert Einstein
Did you formatt and partition the entire drive or only part of it and if so how is it set. Charles (-: Forever never goes beyond tomorrow.

You may have to add a parameter hdx=c,h,s to your lilo.conf or at boot-time, in order to get your sysyem to recognise the full hard disk (Eg my gigantic hard disk is recognised by hdf=7473,255,63 ) Hope this helps On Monday 22 January 2001 13:56, Michael wrote:
