The line in your pap.secrets and chap.secrets should be
"login name" * "password"
the * in the middle is very important.
Make sure you don't have any other uncommented lines in there.
Zentara,
OK I have that line correct....but....shouldn't the very first line have something about my isp? address, domain name, something??
Well if you are calling the server's dialup number, I guess they figure you know which server you are calling. Do you have multiple servers you dialup with different loginames?
No, just one server for now.
The pap.secret as shown above with the *. The * means servername. It usually just works with *.
You could try to put your servername in there for *.
Pap.secrets can have multiple entries. So I'm guessing that when you try to login, the pppd searches the file for the first line that gives a match.
Maybe your problem is in your login name. My login name, for example, is different from my "username", which I use for email, etc.
Do have a different login name from my user name.
Your loginname is also specified in the /etc/ppp/options file.
Will check those thing out and report back Thanks, Bob S.
