[S.u.S.E. Linux] DHCP Client
Is there a reason that 5.2 doesnt have a DHCP client built into it. My previous Linux (RH 4.2) *almost* had it (I just had to add the line BOOTPROTO=dhcp to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0). Many offices use DHCP internally - its the Ethernet eqvt of an ISP's dynamic IP addressing - so it is important. I myself can prolly figure out how to do this, considering that in RH 4.1 I had to do it myself. However, I'm trying to convince a number of people in my office to switch to Linux (or at least on a second partition), and I was very excited about being able to recommend one distribution that makes everything so *neat* for the new user. (I have joined this list only recently. Searched the archives, but only found a question from someone. No answers...) Thanks for any info. (Searched the FTP site - no dhcpCd files except the standard HOWTOs. Once again - I hope it's included in the next version. I know many people who would love to get into Linux, and might come to love it as time goes, but it's important that their *first* few steps into Linux be as simple and uncomplicated as possible. SuSE comes closest so far for my needs in this evangelistic attempt of mine.) Doesn't installing the dhcp rpm satisfy your requirement? Dwight -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Thanks for your reply, Dwight. rpm -qip dhcp.rpm clearly says it contains ONLY the server. So - no it does not satisfy my requirement. Even if there was a dhcpCd.rpm, having to install it separately outside of the benign confines of YaST is something I would like to avoid if possible, for reasons already given in original post.
