[opensuse] ssh client
The kssh client was dropped a few releases ago. I currently use Putty. I was wondering if there is a KDE or GNOME replacement for this. While Putty (http://www.putty.org/) is OK, I don't like a number of its aspects. -- -- Jerry Feldman <gaf@blu.org> Boston Linux and Unix PGP key id: 537C5846 PGP Key fingerprint: 3D1B 8377 A3C0 A5F2 ECBB CA3B 4607 4319 537C 5846

kssh was dropped but, it is still available in the KDE community repository at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Community/ Choose you version and of you go. I still use it... -- Rui Santos http://www.ruisantos.com/ Veni, vidi, Linux! -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm confused. why do you need a ssh client in linux? Open a shell, (konsole or xterm) and type ssh. What would you need a client? -- ----------JSA--------- "Ubuntu" is an African word meaning "Suse is too hard for me". -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

kssh is a graphical frontend to the command line ssh client. It has a few advantages, IMHO. In kssh case: - It stores all hosts connect to, so it can act a "connect to" database. - It also stores almost all information used by ssh client to connect to the remote host, like Enable X11, Tunnel configuration, Compression, Auth agent forward, etc, etc, etc... It will save you a lot of writing...

Exactly. Putty saves the information the same way that kssh did. While putty does just about everything kssh did, it does not integrate as well. -- Jerry Feldman <gaf@blu.org> Boston Linux and Unix PGP key id: 537C5846 PGP Key fingerprint: 3D1B 8377 A3C0 A5F2 ECBB CA3B 4607 4319 537C 5846

Kssh is not a stand-alone ssh client, it integrates with Konsole to make it easier to create ssh sessions / tabs and to do so as the top-level shell. It also remembers all the configurations you've used to connect remotely including all ssh options used to further simplify connection establishment. It has a simple connection establishment dialog that appears when you select "Secure Shell" from the Konsole new-tab menu. For 11.0, packages are in "KDE:Community/openSUSE_11.0".

The reason I want a client is that I want the session manager to restart the ssh sessions automatically. Another thing is that each ssh session uses a different port. (But, I do have the default ports set up in ~/.ssh/config -- -- Jerry Feldman <gaf@blu.org> Boston Linux and Unix PGP key id: 537C5846 PGP Key fingerprint: 3D1B 8377 A3C0 A5F2 ECBB CA3B 4607 4319 537C 5846
