NVidia 4496 + kernel 2.4.23-pre4 + new gcc 3.3.1 LOOKING GOOD!

I built a new 2.4.23-pre4 Athlon kernel with the latest gcc-3.3.1 and it's been fine, no more VT corruption -- the coloured lines when I did CTRL-ALT-F1 or shutdown/reboot or the black screen on CTRL-ALT-F2 to F6. It's also the first time I've had a non-SuSE kernel boot fully on 8.2 Pro. I had to use CVS ALSA to get my soundcard ens1371 microphone to work as the 2.4 kernels are not up-to-date with Alsa and try to handle it as an es1371. The problem I had with scribus not inputting text in a text box has also disappeared. I had a solid lockup overnight, but I suspect a faulty SCSI hard disk caused it as it has not come up after a hard reset and I've seen intermittent problems with it in the last week or so. SuSE kernels or gcc ?? Hmmmmmmmm.....That's the question. Regards Sid.
