[opensuse] no output tty1-6 after tumbleweed 20180920 tty7 ok
Hi, i have 5 hardware + software identical systems, only monitor's (always 2 pices) are at one system different. on this system, after update i have no output at screen (only black) at tty 1 to 6. xorg/kde (tty7 graphic is fine) also at loginscreen switching with ctrl+alt+f1 to f6 only black screen's only f7 will work. booting on the same hardware a second tumbleweed installed, same version, but without graphic system installed, there at loginpromt i am able to switch without problems tty. at boot i see the "first part" of the bootmessages, and then at some point screen went black and after some seconds i get graphical login screen but normally i should see longer the bootmessages, normally screen went short black, then messages continue to scroll over screen, and after that the graphical loginscreen will appear. also i do not have any shutdown messages at screen, pressing inside kde shutdown, screen turns black and after a while power will got away. what should i search (maybe inside journal) to find the problem? or is this a know issue? should i asked at the factory@ list because it has something to do with a tumbleweed update? simoN -- www.becherer.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It is unclear the meaning of this statement. 5 computers? One computer that behaves differently from one (or more) other computers? All computers are OK except for one?

It's hard to say exactly what to look for. Take a look for guidance at: <https://doc.opensuse.org/documentation/leap/archive/42.1/reference/html/book.opensuse.reference/cha.journalctl.html>
should i asked at the factory@ list because it has something to do with a tumbleweed update?
Preferred location is opensuse-support@opensuse.org until such time as it might become known to be a bug rather than a user or installation-specific problem. Does the failure occur regardless whether you use the left or right Ctrl key? Can you try a different keyboard on the one where 1-6 are not reachable? Does it help at all to boot to the previously installed kernel? It's possible you have acquired a Plymouth problem. You can temporarily disable Plymouth to find out at the Grub menu. Type an "e" it opens, then navigate down to where you see splash=silent and quiet. Remove both splash=silent and quiet, then append (without quotes) "plymouth.enable=0", proceed with boot, then report back your findings. Also you should share via http://susepaste.org (you can use the cmdline tool susepaste to do so) your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file so we can see any error messages or clues to what is or is not happening. Tell use some hardware specifics, such as output from 'lspci -nnk | grep -A3 VGA", "hwinfo --gfxcard" and/or "inxi -Gxx". Some error messages may be found by doing "dmesg | grep -i failure" and/or "journalctl -b -1 | grep -i failure". If any of these commands produce a command not found message, simply install and try again. e.g. 'sudo zypper install inxi'. -- "Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Hi, only for the record: i found the problem: because all my computers are clones from each other, the the kernel parameters are also cloned and are video=1920x1200 showopts pcie_aspm=off up to now there where no problem with this. but with the above mentioned tumbleweed update, the one and only computer who has a different screen and different screen resolution have had problems. in not displaying the tty 1-6 any more. i tried inside kde system settings screen what will happened if i change the resolution to 1920x1200, because kde on this computer was running with 2560x1600. result was a black screen. so i changed the grub kernel commandline to video=2560x1600 showopts pcie_aspm=off and my console output is back :-))))))) why the wrong setting was not affected the behavior before i didn not know. maybe a bug or a feature???? thanks again for the help who brought be to the correct way. simoN Am 24.09.18 um 10:14 schrieb Simon Becherer:
