The cd recording software (cdrecord) recognizes only SCSI drives. So, if you leave your IDE CD-ROM drive as hdX, you won't be able to use it for CD copying or audio CD ripping. If you put all your CD drives under SCSI emulation, you may suffer a small performance drop, but you'll be able to use it with your CDR/W. Rafael

That could be for the same reason that I have problems with mail from you. I can't connect to your DNS, my dns just reports 'lame server'.
