[opensuse] Burning DL DVDs with 10.3
Has anyone been able to burn DVD+R DL with the new libata in 10.3? I am suspecting a problem with libata. I see this when it fails May 14 19:03:20 jmorris kernel: ata4.00: 16 bytes trailing data. I have burned DL media with this computer before, IIRC 9.3. I remember giving my kids their own copy of the 9.3 DL DVDs. I have tried now 4 times, have went from 19%, 39%, 44%, and 77%, but always fail. DL media is too expensive to keep trying. I have tried specifying the speed instead of auto, tried a different brand media, I have even tried the 10.3 branch kernel (2.6.22.18-184.1) in case there had been some libata fixes, but still a failure. Has anyone had success burning DL media with 10.3? Would it be worth a test to disable libata to try? I don't want to keep creating DL coasters. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I've burnt then from the desktop with k3b a number of times on 10.1 32bit. Haven't tried on 10.3 64bit. JOhn -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes. Someone burned a copy of 10.3 32-bit...but I wanted 10.3 64-bit. So I installed 10.3 32-bit, downloaded 10.3 64-bit, and burned it to DVD+R DL, and I am now posting from the installation from that DVD. I am

How old is your DVD device, and when was the last time it was cleaned? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

So I installed 10.3 32-bit, downloaded 10.3 64-bit, and burned it to DVD+R DL, and I am now posting from the installation from that DVD. Thanks for confirming it is still possible. Since I have already ruled out libata as the problem (by going back to the ide module), which made it to 86% before it failed, what burning program did you use? If k3b, which version? I am running 1.04, but assuming you used k3b, and the version on the original DVD, I could try reverting.

About 3 years, and never. But since it has burned CDs and DVDRs with no problem, I doubt DL would cause a failure from being dirty (though hardware may be a possibility). -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
