Wine question of installing software from CD
Hi I'm first time starting to play with Wine. My spouse have a game on CD, and when I'm trying to install it with Wine, it comes up with a small "M$" kind of window with only "OK" button, and no text. When I click on that, the installation stops. On the lower-edge of screen there is "xxx installation wizard" or something like that (it is in Finnish), that has progress bar up to 100%.. This looks as it should. What can I do?? Jaska.

If you have a dual boot, the first thing to try, is to install the game to a real windows system, and see if wine will run it, after it is installed. The standard wine dosn't handle installing too well. If it runs, then copy it off to your linux system, and tar it up as a backup. If you don't have a dual boot, you can still install it on some windows machine, then zip it up and ftp it to your linux system. You might have to tweak it, by getting it's ini files, etc. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation
Go to www.winehq.org and then the downloads section. You;ll see a link to rpm's from one of the SuSE developers for wine. Get the wine-20021010-0.i586.rpm and install it. I has directx 7 on it and a change log of updates shows improvements related to instalss. Give it a whirl. Oh, and don't forget to run winesetup again. HTH, Curtis. Or have the apt component "wine" or "suse-people" configured in the /etc/apt/sources.list and an "apt-get install wine" will be all you need to do. And from that moment on, apt will track if the a new wine component comes available, and will notify you about that :) -- Richard
Hi Thanx for the advice. The game did install, but it does not run.. shame. But no harm done, it was just a kind of test, if that would run under Linux. Jaska. On Saturday 02 November 2002 20:59, Curtis Rey wrote:

Jaska.
Wine doesn't have much support for DirectX...however, www.transgaming.com uses wine source with extensive DirectX support for games.
