Ive been playing with this for several evening and In total frustration am posting here overview root has system sounds, can play mp3s (xxms), and cds nonroot has system sounds, can play mp3s(xxms), but the cdplayer dosnt seem to "spin" iow the counter dosnt increment and obiviously no sound for non root, I have the kmix adjusted, and the proper cd passed to kscd (/dev/cdrom1) kscd dosent seem to *see* the cdplayer what I've done 1 tried to mount the cd (message "only root can do that") 2 wend into yast>group and added the non privledged user to the disk group, and audio (did nothingm, still cant mount the cd) 3 looked at the permissions to /dev/cdrom1 and set and unset the GID....(diddnt seem to have an efect) I really cant see why something as simple as playing a cd for a typical user has to be so frikin non-intutive!!!! I'm suspecting *another* bug here.... :-/ this is v 7.1 kernel 2.2.18 I *really* dont want to be working/mucking around in the system as root! does anyone know the proper permissons for the cdrom?? Or suggestions to fix this? many thanks

chmod o+rw /dev/cdrom Since I'm the only user on my system, I considered it a limited security exposure. -- Rick Green "I have the heart of a little child, and the brain of a genius. ... and I keep them in a jar under my bed"

Anyone gotten Samba 2.2a3 installed on SuSE 7.1? We're having major problems - compile errors, dependancy problems, etc... I really would like to take advantage of the ability to share our ACT database using Samba, but 2.07 just doesn't work with our Win2K clients... Tia for any help Charles
