I'm trying FTP from Konqueror tonight. Interesting thing is everything using WSFTP from Windows is in ASCII mode and it works. ^^^^^^^^^^^ This is not possible.
It may /appear/ to you to be happening in ASCII mode, but I assure you it is not. jpegs /are/ binaries; they're compressed image data. And binaries *do not* transfer via ftp in ASCII mode without getting mangled. Those are just the facts. And, if you stop to think about it, this reality explains the need for two modes in the first place. What's happening ... and as much as it pains me to describe a windoze based application favorably (at least it's an independent "third party" package) ... is that WSFTP is able to communicate it's needs to the server in such a manner that your files are just 'landing' intact; without you having to intervene manually or pay close attention to the modes. This is what KBear is intended to do and will be doing eventually. My main interest at this point is /not/ to prove you wrong, but to help you understand the problem so you'll recognize it quickly in the future and be able to deal with it on your own and do so confidently. So, again, good luck & regards, - Carl -- ____________________________________________________________________ C. E.
