Hellos SuSE people, Recently upgrade to KDE3.4 on SuSE 9.2 Have this very aggravating problem with Kwallet which demands that I supply passwords for all of my email accounts (4) and other things. Now, my ISP doesn't require it at every login, so why should Kmail /Kwallet ? (Shades of Microsoft) (Who needs this crap - that is why I quit Windows) Disabled Kwallet but every time Kmail starts it demands the passwords. I can go in and configure Kmail with the correct passwords and it will behave properly, but the next time I start Kmail it "forgets" my password configuration and demands the individual passwords again. Really getting tired of this BS !! Really don't need automated stuff "looking after me". How do I make Kmail forget about this stupid Kwallet thing that 99% of us don't want or need ??? Bob S.

The same thing happened to me and it really bugged me, too. Here's what I did to get that wallet stuff out of my face and to allow KMail to run unattended: - Launch the wallet manager application. As far as I know, it's nowhere to be found in the K menus, so you have to enter it into a shell or use ALT-F2 and type "kwalletmanager". - In the "Wallet Preferences" tab: -- Settings -> Configure Configure Wallet... -- Disable (uncheck) all the Close options -- Disable "Show manager in system tray" (optional) - In the "Access Control" tab: -- Disable "Prompt when an application accesses an open wallet" Also, in the "Access Control" tab, the outline view shows the Policy "Always allow" under KConfigEditor for the application "kmail". Sadly, I just had to get to this by trial and error and to be honest, I don't know exactly what all this stuff means, exactly. Just that KMail is hounding me about not storing the passwords in its configuration file and that the wallet manager is not repeatedly asking me for a master password.

Correction: KMail is _not_ hounding me. Randall Schulz

I am running 8.2/KDE3.4, compiled from source. Until this release, I usually upgraded KDE using the SuSE provided packages. Before this upgrade, I had always a 'SuSE' entry in my K menu, which is now gone. But I remember that the 'Settings' submenu has always been there. In it, there are also entries for the Printing Manager, Menu Updating Tool, Menu Editor, Desktop Settings Wizard and Panel Configuration. -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. Got it. It's there in my 9.1, too. I guess I was fixated on looking for "kwallet," 'cause I did look in that sub-menu.

I'm afraid that's a non-sequitur to me at this point. What loss of control are you referring to? Randall Schulz

Randall, Hmmmmm.......I did those things also before you posted but I didn't have anything about "Always Allow" for kmail in Access Control In fact that large white pane is supposed to have some kind of a tree view for your applications (according to the kwallet users manual) Mine is blank. Maybe that is where you saw the "always Allow" thing. Anyway, that did not cure it for me. Everytime I start up kmail after a new X session I have to go and put all of my passwords back into the kmail config. It retains the settings as long as I don't log out and I can go on and off line as much as needed. Got to be some way to cure that. BTW I am running 9.2 with 3.4 and my kwallet management tool is found under System > Desktop Applet > Wallet Management tool. Seems everybody has it in a different place. No wonder the Kmenu is such a mess to configure/customize. Now !!! I NEED to vent !! (Start rant ) I really love KDE. I really love the effort and dedication of the KDE team. It is a great Desktop........BUT !!!.......Why do they just unload some of this stuff like Kwallet on us. "Surprise !" It is really really kind of microsoftish ! After they do an upgrade why can't they warn us on what is added and give us the option to include it or disable it ??? (end of rant) Now I have to try and figure out how to straighten out kmail. Must be a file someplace to edit, or maybe I can figure out how to uninstall kwallet and that will fix what ever files are effected. Anybody else has an ideas feel free to chime in. Bob S.

I am referring to the fact the the wallet kept interrupting me and often refused to lie quiet and sent incorrect passwords to my applications. And settings and control of the wallet just another thing to have to spend time on; I need to do more important things like mastering xemacs, LaTeX, cvs, OpenGL, compiling....

There's nothing to apologize for. I just wanted to point out the discrepancies. They may result from the different sequence of package installations and updates.
