Hi, How am I supposed to configure an IDE CDR on SuSE 6.4 to get it in working condition? I tried searching for some clear documents, but I did not really succeed. Can anyone help me out here? Do I have to use a kernel with SCSI or something? Pls give me a clue... use the standard distro kernel. insert 'append="hdd=ide-scsi"' in your /etc/lilo.conf and rerun lilo OR instead of running lilo/changing lilo.conf, use 'modprobe ide-scsi /dev/hdd' ( assuming your CDR is a slave device on the second controller. ) When the ide-scsi module has loaded, try cdrecord -scanbus Should work. -tosi -----Original Message----- From: Evert Jan van Ramselaar [mailto:evertjan@vanramselaar.net] Sent: 16. október 2000 19:51 To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] IDE CDR on SuSE6.4 Hi, How am I supposed to configure an IDE CDR on SuSE 6.4 to get it in working condition? Basically put in lilo as I think you said has been done. Login as root find /etc/rc.config find this line which might have something in there already. INITRD_MODULES="" There insert "ide-scsi", then save and exit file and editor. Run Suseconfig --nonewpackage in console or terminal window. As next step we have to generate a new initrd. This has to be done by executing mk_initrd in console or terminal window. type lilo enter Now your cdr should be sr0 and some modification might need to be done in fstab. just copy line for normal cd changing /dev/hdd to /dev/sr0. hope this has helped Rob Davies rjdart@optusnet.com.au ICQ 10432219 ' To converse is one strategy that separates us from the Apes.' -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
I think I found the solution. I added this to the top of my /etc/modules.conf: options ide-cd ignore=hdd # tell the ide-cd module to ignore hdb alias scd0 sr_mod # load sr_mod upon access of scd0 #pre-install ide-scsi modprobe imm # uncomment for some ZIP drives only pre-install sg modprobe ide-scsi # load ide-scsi before sg pre-install sr_mod modprobe ide-scsi # load ide-scsi before sr_mod pre-install ide-scsi modprobe ide-cd # load ide-cd before ide-scsi as suggested on http://ldp.nllgg.nl/HOWTO/CD-Writing-HOWTO-2.html#ss2.1 The CDR now seems to be recognized as such: root@ram1:/etc # modprobe ide-scsi /dev/hdd root@ram1:/etc # cdrecord -scanbus Cdrecord 1.8 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2000 Jörg Schilling Using libscg version 'schily-0.1' scsibus0: 0,0,0 0) 'SONY ' 'CD-R CDU928E ' '1.1n' Removable CD-ROM Now I just seem to have to put the modprobe command somewhere in the boot scripts, as it isn't run automatically. However, I think I'm getting in the right direction. Thanks for your help! -- Evert Jan
