From the factory list: as of beta2, the graphical bootloader (the one on the install media) supports speech output via pc-speaker. That is, it reads all menu items to you. This feature is mainly there to aid visual impaired people. To try it, simply press F9. A talking installer is a very interesting usability idea, not sure if it is doable from the business point of view though :-( -- "A computer is like an Old Testament god, with a lot of rules and no mercy. There is support for braille in openSUSE - and the bootloader can talk. AFAIK there are some wiki pages with details, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Director Platform / openSUSE, aj@suse.de SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

Maybe you read a reference to a thread on the factory mailing list. It is a little tested feature, so there is little info. Yes, 11.0 has it. You press F9 on the first boot screen, the one from grub. Right, but you can't see the screen... then I suppose you can press F9 several times as it is booting till you hear something. Most of us know only what was written on that factory thread. Ask the people that created the feature, they will know more... If I remember correctly, Bryen is involved with accesibility things. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. You should hit F9 when the green boot menu appears. Hit and hit again not so wise, 'cause if I remember correct then another F9 will turn off the feature. It was (at beta2 times) almost full in english and quite basic in german. The language names are read well, but other languages weren't well supported at those times.
