I'm trying hard to get cups and gimp-print set up on this 7.1 box. I've followed the instructions on the "Gimp-Print and CUPS Installation Guide" by Mark Williamson and have reached the point where I'm supposed to connect to http://localhost:631 but everytime I try I get an Mozilla Alert error saying "The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost:631." Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong. I'd really like to get CUPS and Gimp-Print working. dave -- David C. Hi David, Hre are a couple of things to try for starters and report back what you find. Firstly is cupsd running? graham@merlin:~> ps -ef | grep cupsd root 2238 1 0 Feb24 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/cupsd graham 16827 16811 0 06:19 pts/1 00:00:00 grep cupsd graham@merlin:~> Secondly is localhost defined in /etc/hosts ? Try pinging localhost to see if it is defined graham@merlin:~> ping localhost PING localhost (127.0.0.1) from 127.0.0.1 : 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.062 ms 64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.058 ms 64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.058 ms 64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=4 ttl=64 time=0.058 ms --- localhost ping statistics --- 4 packets transmitted, 4 received, 0% loss, time 2997ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.058/0.059/0.062/0.002 ms graham@merlin:~> Or try using http://127.0.0.1:631 and see if you can connect. Also have a look at the logs messages in /var/log/cups and see if there are any errors listed. -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------

Search in "/etc/cups/cupsd.conf" and look for things like this: <Location /> Order Deny,Allow Deny From All Allow From 127.0.0.1 Allow From 127.0.0.2 Allow From 192.168.100.2 </Location> Make sure your IP is there; There are also lines saying which users can browse. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
