I've already asked for help here, but got no answer. I had my SCSI scanner working under 6.0, 6.1, 6.3, but it does not work in 7. The stock SuSE 2.2.16 kernel does not recognize it as SG0. I have downloaded and compiled 2.2.17 with my traditional .config file. This is the output of cdrecord -scanbus: csibus0: 0,6,0 scanner csibus1: 1,0,0 Pioneer DVD-rom 1,1,0 Creatice CD-RW o far , so good. When I launch Xsane, it loads all right, but when I hit the scan or preview button, Xsane freezes., and about 60 seconds later I get the message: "failed to start scanner". I checked the permissions and group for /dev/sga /dev/sg0 and /dev/scanner, and they are as they should. fxf -- ______________________ Courtesy of SuSE Linux Kernel 2.2.16 (who cares?) -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

1)Do you have the the SCSI emulation for the CD-RW as a module or is it included in the kernel. If the latter is the case I recommend recompiling the kernel and using the scsi emulation for your CDRW as a module. which you can get it loaded with boot.local 2)You may need to recompile sane and xsane if you ahve downloaded them (with xsane .60 that is the most likely and if so get xsane .062 and sane 1.03) Hope it helps -- Togan Muftuoglu toganm@turk.net 100% MS FREE Absolutely no component of Microsoft was used in the generation or posting of this e-mail.
