[opensuse] libre office and staroffice
Hello, I just had to recover very old course (2002) written with staroffice, just to notice libreoffice do not anymore convert these files. I'm a bit paranoid about backups, so I could find in my archives a staroffice binary :-). Linux one didn't run (lack of some library, may be solvable, but I didn't even tried), but windows versions run perfectly under wine :-). I can convert sdw files to doc and open these with libreoffice. but if I can open sda (draw) files, I don't find any way to export them to *vector* graphics and libreoffice do not open them. do you know any way to convert staroffice draw to libreoffice draw? thanks jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I don't have a perfect solution for the problem, but you can always export/print to ps or eps files and use them in libreoffice, or transform them to vector graphic formats with inkscape. You could also export high quality pixmap files and and vectorize with inkscape. Karl
thanks jdd

Perhaps you can find an older version of OpenOffice in the openSUSE repositories. I don't recall the last version that supports that old format though. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

well, I could find a staroffice one from my archives and an openoffice one from apache. But I feel like I remember than draw was not openned as was the rest of the code, so may be no reral solution. I will also try printing. thanks jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
That explains why libreoffice will find staroffice templates but do nothing when they're opened. Why would libreoffice even include file formats in a list when they're not supported? jd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
Libreoffice3.5 has an external filter to handle staroffice5.2 docs, it seems: libobasis3.5-binfilter -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

The support was removed not very long ago, so that if you install, dunno, something between 10.1 and 11.4, in a virtual machine, it may work, and better than converting them to doc. In that LO or OO save in .odt or whatever default, then you should be able to open them in a recent LO. Which is something I also must do myself to retrieve and backup some old files. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)

the better thing I found is to run windows openoffice version with wine (not to disturb my libreoffice standard install). Easily found on apache archives. in fact openoffice 3.0.1 seems to be a good version, I could even open sda files (draw) and export them as svg jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
