Linux software to replace Outlook and Organiser with.....
Hi Shane and SuSE users:
I am still at a basic stage and learning how to use the system, that is why I am still doing all my work under Win 98. I am hoping to find programs that can perform the same jobs as :
Microsoft Outlook with regard to handling Email and automatically placing it into folders using rules or similar &
Kmail does this; you use Settings -> Filter Rules
Lotus Organiser for booking appointments.
Korganizer (in KDE2) is good. Also Gnome has some nice stuff. For Word Procesing I would suggest Corel Word Perfect 8 for Linux. It should be on your SuSE cd's. Kword is a little shaky and may not work very well at all if you have not gotten the updates from the SuSE site. Gnumeric is an excellent Excell spreadsheet clone. Kspread is very good also. Also Abiword is another fine WP. Abiword, Staroffice and Corel Word Perfect will all read Microsoft Word documents. All three will create documents that are readable Microsoft Windows computers. I anticipate that KDE 2 and Koffice will have improved functionality in SuSE 7.1. -- Cheers, Jonathan
If someone could get Gnucash to install easily then you have your monet management side taken care of, it will even read Quickbooks files too. Matt On Tuesday 30 January 2001 06:52 pm, Jonathan Drews wrote:

About a year ago I paid a $25 donation to MoneyDance for Sean's excellent program. I hear it has gone commerical but the MD 2.04 is still free. JLK On Tuesday 30 January 2001 22:47, Matthew wrote:

I found StarOffice dealt better with Word documents than both the Windows and Mac versions of Word... In both cases where I used Office to open this particular document (created in Windows Word) it didn't display/print correctly. I opened it in StarOffice and it worked beautifully ;-) Ironic that - Linux app opens Word documents better than Microsoft app that created them.
