[opensuse] Does your gmail account work?
Get some bulky material via gmail. Use pop for that download and it works since I started using gmail. (4 to 5 years) Today I have some 20 emails in my gmail account but if I want to download them, I get following information: Could not connect to host pop.gmail.com: Unknown error. Do you use pop to download from gmail, do you have problems? Or is it just me ;( -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Why in gods name are you using Pop with Gmail? Use imap.gmail.com port 993 ssl for mail access and smtp.gmail.com port 465 ssl for sending via gmail. These work with every client I've ever tried. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Gmail simulates folders to imap clients. It actually just has Labels. You can create Labels using the web browser gmail interface. These will then appear in your Kmail as folders. You can create Folders in Kmail. These will appear in the web interface as Labels. You can do server side filtering in Gmail's web interface more efficiently than you can in Kmail, but either will work. For instance, I use the web filters to LABEL all opensuse mail with a label of "SuseList" and also select the option to skip the in-box. In Kmail, I don't need any filters, because arrives pre-sorted into my "SuseList" folder. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks for this tip, I have been using POP up to now. However, following the settings you give above, I can't get KMail to send to gmail (I actually have a googlemail account, but it's the same thing). My password doesn't seem to stick in the sending dialog, even though I've ticked the 'remember' box. Matters might be complicated by the fact that I have two sending transports set up, the default goes by SMTP to my ISP, and googlemail goes to gmail. Any advice, please? I use dual smtp servers too, separate ones for corporate and gmail. I don't know exactly what the problem you are seeing is but it might be that your login name on the gmail smtp must be your complete email address, not just the user name portion. http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78799 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks, by fiddling with different combinations of SSL/TLS, port numbers it's working now. I'm using TLS through port 587 I'd got the full e-mail address as the login name.
