RE: [SLE] nvidia drivers (build 0.95)

I finally got these to work. I commented out "INTEL_i840" and
"VIA ??4" (can't remember that one exactly) in the interfaces.c
file and it compiled just fine. But then I also got a complaint about
libGL.so.1 not being a symbolic link. I did a long list on the directory
and it showed that libGL.so.1 was a link, but I just renamed it anyway.
I also cleaned out and/or renamed any other "old" libGL.so.x files that
I found. I got rid of those from the NVIDIA 0.94 drivers. Then I made
sure that any remaining ones pointed to libGL.so.1.0.5 (the .95 build one).
Then I rebuilt the glx driver and no more complaints! I tried out ssystem
and it worked great (no more segmentation fault!). I am getting
about 42 - 44 FPS from my TNT card.
So I think it very likely that the problem you are having must involve the
libGL.so.x files still. Please note that I did not do anything with any of the
libGlut.so files. If you keep trying you'll probably find it!
Performance seems to be a little erratic though (at least in the one game
I have on there - the space sim "Terminus"). On one try, the game's movies
work very smoothly. Then on another try (even after a reboot), the same
movies are a little uneven & jerky. Could there still be a conflict somewhere?
I also noticed that when I logged out of KDE last night, I received a few
messages about various libGLMesa.x.x files - something about not
finding them and "most likely they are not present". In order for the NVIDIA
drivers to work, you are supposed to remove or rename any Mesa file to
prevent conflicts. Something is apparently still looking for them - any
ideas what it could be?
TIA,
Mike

hi Mike,
for the undeclared i840 function i edited the makefile for the kernel an
commented the line(s) where he looks for a chipset i840.
I had the same error with a via KT133 undeclared just do the same and
voila!
but i can't make ssytem work, it complains about libglut.so. so i symlink to
libGL.so.1.2.5 (or something like that ), but it complained again for some
libGL(do not remenber the rigth name)
so when i done a symlink and i get some error couldn't load glpixmap(or
something like that).

Had lots of problems trying to upgrade the nvidia drivers.
Currently running SuSE 6.4, Xfree86 - 4.01, and the 0.94 build of the nvidia drivers.
I saw that there were some SuSE 6.4 rpms of the new 0.95 nvidia drivers & figured that it would be trivial to upgrade. The kernel driver apparently installed fine (at least it said so: "Nvdriver installed successfully", or something like that). The glx driver had some problems finding some of the libglx.o files (which was odd since I currently had the .94 drivers installed). In any case X wouldn't start - I could not get past the "unresolved symbol tqueue_lock error" . So I downloaded the tarballs and tried to proceed from there.
The Nvdriver would not build - I kept getting messages about i840 being undeclared, or something like that.
So I went back to the .94 tarballs and built them with no problems (except for few "unresolved symbols " when building the glx drivers - but I believe I had seen these the first time I installed .94, and it did not seem to cause any problems). I then was able to start X just fine. Also, I ran "ssystem - - bench" which worked fine as well.
Any ideas why .94 works but .95 won't build? Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
