You need to set execute permission on the configure script. That's what the shell is telling you. "L. Mark Stone" wrote:
I'm trying to install the latest version of Quanta. Yast and apt do not have the latest version, so I d/l'd the bz2 file from Sourceforge.
After I expanded the file, I went to run ./configure, and got the following:
bronxville:/home/lms/Documents/Downloads/quanta-3.0 # ./configure bash: ./configure: /bin/sh: bad interpreter: Permission denied bronxville:/home/lms/Documents/Downloads/quanta-3.0 #
I'm running SuSE 8.1.
I'm not a programmer, so the whole build process is something I do rote, without really understanding what's going on. I don't want to be a programmer either; I just want to run the app!

Jerry, That's what I thought too, but it looks (to me) to be OK: bronxville:/home/lms/Documents/Downloads/quanta-3.0 # dir conf* -rwxrwxr-x 1 root users 89 2002-11-29 21:42 config.h.bot -rwxrwxr-x 1 root users 3788 2002-11-29 21:42 config.h.in -rwxrwxr-x 1 root users 771306 2002-11-29 21:42 configure -rwxrwxr-x 1 root users 41 2002-11-29 21:42 configure.files -rwxrwxr-x 1 root users 6831 2002-11-29 21:42 configure.in -rwxrwxr-x 1 root users 777 2002-11-29 21:42 configure.in.in Am I missing something here? As root, "chown -cRv lms.users *" in the above directory (minus the quotes). Then, ./configure AS USER. make, as user, THEN su to root, and make install (or better yet checkinstall, which will make an rpm to make it much easier to uninstall.)
