Konqueror -> X slurping resources when viewing regularly updated directory with movies
Hello all, Sorry for the long title, but I guess that's what best describes what's happening to me: - I'm downloading movies into a directory (legal here in the Netherlands, so let's keep that out of the discussion, shall we?:) - Konqueror is opened into the directory where the files are being downloaded - CPU usage is up to 100% (system monitor qualifies the use as 'nice') - Memory used by X is rapidly increasing (if I view the directory for too long, my system will slow down to a crawl). - Memory is not released once Konqueror has been closed, but CPU usage drops back to normal levels. The same happens when I make Konqueror view a different directory. Anyone got a clue what this might be about? I'm using KDE 3.2, but I don't recall this happening before I installed 3.2. This might just be because of selective memory though. Regards, Pieter Hulshoff

Isn't Konqueror trying to give you a preview of movies? I noticed the same when I tried Kde 3.2, and after a while it gave me a snapshot of every movie in a directory. praise

Possibly, as a ps does indicate a thumbnail related issue being the cause. That still doesn't explain why it continues to use up memory though. I've tried to turn off the previewing, but I don't seem to've found the magic button to stop this problem yet (turned off all kinds of things:). Any thoughts? Regards, Pieter Hulshoff

Hmm, I just turned off ALL previewing, and not only does the problem not occur any more; X has also freed the memory again. Perhaps I should get in touch with the KDE developers about this one? Regards, Pieter
