SuSE 7.2 and fetchmail: error cannot find caninical server
This error message occurs when we do the following steps: 1. ping to the SuSE server results in error: host unknown 2. ping once again results in successfull connection to the SuSE server 3. running fetchmail immediately after a successfull ping results in no errors 4. but sometimes without pinging, fetchmail results in the error 'cannot find canonical server' Thus, we believe that route is OK but that something else is wrong. Does anyone have a tip or solution please ? Many thanks in advance, Frans

Looks pretty much like name resolution problem. Did you try using IP address in stead of host name in fetchmail? If it works, it definitely points to DNS problem. Then look at your /etc/resolv.conf, try to use different name server. HTH, -Kastus
