Anyone who has connected SuSE 8.0 to HP network printer
I am trying to connect to an HP 8100 network printer. I have tried using lpnrg and now cups. I can get neither to work. Within Yast I have defined the printer with every possible setting and have yet to get anything to print. I send the print job, it gives me the job ID and nothing from that point. lpstat lists the printer as accepting jobs, lpq lists nothing in the queue. But, the print jobs never makes it to the printer. The printer is defined in /etc/hosts as follows: 10.250.200.31 2nd-it3-8100 I can ping 2nd-it3-8100 I can telnet 2nd-it3-8100 9100 What else could be wrong? Any help is gresatly appreciated. Also, does HP's jetdirect software still exist and if so will it work on SuSE 8.0? Thanks, Chuck
What I did was use KUPS. If you run the detection tool that is part of it..it will then go out and basically find services listening on port 9100. It might come back as "unknown printer" which you can then modify to have it named as you wish and use the driver you wish. :) You can also use the built http server that cups comes with by going to http://localhost:631 and go through all the configs that way. * SuSE Mailing List (suse@hellarave.com) [020616 11:11]: :: ::I am trying to connect to an HP 8100 network printer. Yes, I've used both LPRNG and CUPS... I think CUPS is a little easier, because you can setup the printer as a JetDirect printer specifically and the driver for CUPS seem to be more up to date. What are you actually trying to print? - Heman SuSE Mailing List wrote:

Are you using the cups admin tool http://localhost:631/ In your browser ? Running programs from an xterm can help as it will log any problems. Brian Marr On Sunday 16 June 2002 20:48, SuSE Mailing List wrote:
