I seem to remember reading about this issue. My recollection is that there is a file called firmware-4.bin which should be placed in /lib/firmware directory. However, the file being searched for is called firmware-5.bin. This is shown in one of the lines above. The solution was to copy firmware-4.bin as firmware-5.bin. The wireless then worked. Looking at the messages above, it is looking for file called firmware-5.bin in lib/firmware//ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0. Looking at this directory, the file is called firmware-4.bin. Copy this file and name it firmware-5.bin. Let us know if this works. If not, I will try and find the link where this was discussed. It's not necessary an error. Driver attempts to load the "best" firmware starting with the highest version it supports. Such firmware may actually never be even released to public and only used internally by developers.

At the best it makes no sense, at the worst driver may change behavior depending on which version it /believes/ was loaded.
The one in the hw2.1 directory is already firmware-5.bin, and so that is why it is working.
What is "it" and how you determine it is "working"?
Maybe the hw3.0 directory is for the bluetooth or something?

Regards.

Ok, that was great. I followed the link and found the new patched firmware files, downloaded them, and put them into the firmware directory, and now I have wifi! Thanks!
Could you open a bug report and explain there? If something needed for making Leap 42.2 working as is, we should do in in the package level.
thanks,
Takashi
Thanks to everyone for the help. I will get a bug report written soon. -- George Box: 42.2 | KDE Plasma 5.8 | AMD Phenom IIX4 | 64 | 32GB Laptop #1: 42.2 | KDE Plasma 5.8 | Core i7-4710HQ | 64 | 16GB Laptop #2: 42.2 | KDE Plasma 5.8 | Core i5 | 64 | 8GB -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Oh yes, and one more question - what would be the correct syntax for a modprobe command or something in order to load the firmware without having to reboot? -- George Box: 42.2 | KDE Plasma 5.8 | AMD Phenom IIX4 | 64 | 32GB Laptop #1: 42.2 | KDE Plasma 5.8 | Core i7-4710HQ | 64 | 16GB Laptop #2: 42.2 | KDE Plasma 5.8 | Core i5 | 64 | 8GB -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
