Hello to everyone. I'm trying to install my cd-rw. As in many how-to says I did as follow: on /boot/grub/menu.lst I changed the line that start with "kernel" and I have added hde=ide-scsi on modules.conf alias scsi_hostadapter ide-scsi And after this my cd-rom doesn't work at all. I'm runing suse 8.2 on a VAIO laptop. I had troubles before with the cd-rom of this laptop because is a PCMIA cd-rom. WIthout doing those changes the cd-rom works fine as ATAPI and is installed in the /dev/hde/ Does anyone can help me? I want to use my cd-rw under linux. Thanks in advance, and if I'm missing any important information let me know please. Juan

This is due to the fact that the device have changed. You have to access the CDROM through either /dev/sr0 or /dev/scd0 now. You could either edit the /dev/cdrom symlink and change it to /dev/sr0 or use the install hardware option in YaST2. Also, to rip a CD, the device to use is now /dev/sg0.
