I don't know exactly. It is at least customary to put something there that does not exist in Internet. If your put something like ".com" it may bring trouble if the total does exist.

Hi Simon okay, lets see if we can get your problem solved. For postfix, you have clearly told it that your host is "becherer1.site", so without any virtual domains, it will only accept mails to "@becherer1.site" or with no domain at all, ie. "simon". The error you're seeing when you send to "simon@becherer1" sounds a bit odd. It ought to find '127.0.0.2' from /etc/hosts. Maybe something in postfix' DNS setup has changed.
the simon@localhost will generate a "undelivered mail return to sender" "simon@localhost loopbacks to myself."
The mail is first rejected because postfix does not accept mails for "@localhost", but delivery for @localhost will always be 127.0.0.1. So it loops.
sending a "ping" to becherer1 or becherer1.site will return "from becherer1.site 127.0.0.2" and localhost will return "from localhost 127.0.0.1" on both machnines identical, so normally the names are set correct?

ok, i could delete it. as i asked also carlos, is there a need for the domainname .site, this is still not clear for me at all. is this somewhere else written except in etc hosts line 127.0.0.2 ? (of course except in

sending a "ping" to becherer1 or becherer1.site will return "from becherer1.site 127.0.0.2" and localhost will return "from localhost 127.0.0.1" on both machnines identical, so normally the names are set correct?
I would get rid of the 127.0.0.2 - there is no need for it.

ok, i could delete it.
as i asked also carlos, is there a need for the domainname .site, this is still not clear for me at all.
To be honest, I don't know if a domain is required, but it is assumed in so many places, that I hesitate to say you can just remove it. It certainly does no harm and it does not make things more complicated either.
is this somewhere else written except in etc hosts line 127.0.0.2 ?
It is defined in /etc/hostname, yast puts it there. 'hostname -f' will tell you the full name of your host.
(of course except in
/etc/postfix/main.cf myhostname = becherer1.site where i would better then set it to my hostname: becherer1)
In fact, your hostname is "becherer1", and your fully qualified hostname is "becherer1.site". What you configure in postfix is only for postfix to use, nobody else.
i at all only like to get an setup similar to 11.4 where i will be able to mail to all addresses: simon@becherer1 simon@becherer1.site simon@localhost (because as i understand, this is all this machine)
To convert "simon@becherer1" to "simon@becherer1.site" can be done with postfix, I expect something in your old config does it. (see canonicalize). The same might well work for @localhost, the typical postfix definition is: mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain I don't klnow if the cdefault canonicalisation has changed between postfix 2.7.2 and whatever you have in Tumbleweed. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (6.5°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

i changed: mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, $myhostname.$mydomain, $myhostname.site myhostname = becherer1 so i got the old behavior back. :-)) (but this 2 lines are different from old setup, so there must be another way in the old system to do this.) what i do still not understand is why did $myhostname.$mydomain not the job because "site" is in yast as domainname set. so the result should be "becherer1.site" (i have no idear how to check what is inside mydomain) inside this configuration file (main.cf) i do not see where mydomain is set, so i was guessing its something global. i have taken also a look inside the manpages, but also not found if i have to set it or if it is already set somewhere. thanks for pointing me to this line. simoN - -- www.becherer.de -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.19 (GNU/Linux) iQIcBAEBAgAGBQJbF7AcAAoJEOuDxDCJWQG+qcIP/jKL9C8q0zrcxdOicXQ6Tvxt Qe0+c0zahDLU3z0UlEcd/iYgiMrwsOODxsyIJSsBFvpqPAKaZtz/XGG1rAIJ0sQs iXs1eB39i/f/J1U1ZYx8IEiBB36oCjpT1WeZq2Mb0IqkORjEgcoe+xVd2mWIQvcv l4MkVAZHSZNn3lyoGMizLJf2Iw1oWTwQmDsL3AFkLJgvT5vZ8cNtJaFeVvNDQyw+ Ll4DS+TVQNZ8Ubf1sMAS0QFm+03PrdUTC+gq7DsVEHvG1lWcUNRwdwENZpkjoUPe 0xcWiyKEYFKiTjXR8/JdzYBSQ9nlmkxx0keV067ZRGwNWCjrdAPk60Z2aMib2O2S sCA6Wepesi/7LN2GcjGDD+jFjZxc1KbxNi9xzRDRCujmrvTdEzCwJAQQY+zC33NH 0ubWkii73qSuQD6PHUAiG2ei4FSIOMsGIX8hQ5WW/enKRfI0KcgtNzPapqT6BBSW riTQaBYVFGA7Y2gPQWT0exu3/ExDVMJDiqOoeeOnOdMDOzor+YVAWqGtFm0uMrIb m0p8cKrGGOO8FknGobJ7GEmgLg84ozNzCi1sR8QXbl6zfpaPrPqrICP2YxNkGML7 Z7V71sLqrSFtYplPcc/Wx9aoSM5ZkoKvlWpGyd3W51v3/85wigqOfiC2tG+EhQ5x xIrQVO+rXOiWS8Eq//yf =o71F -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Simon, I'm glad you got it to work.
what i do still not understand is why did $myhostname.$mydomain not the job because "site" is in yast as domainname set. so the result should be "becherer1.site" (i have no idear how to check what is inside mydomain)
The default is $myhostname, without the first component. For $myhostname, the default is 'hostname -f'.
inside this configuration file (main.cf) i do not see where mydomain is set, so i was guessing its something global.
It has a default value - 'postconf -d' will show you.
i have taken also a look inside the manpages, but also not found if i have to set it or if it is already set somewhere.
If you look in main.cf, there is quite a bit of explanation in the comments. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (17.8°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
