[SLE] better fonts for netscape
I often hear people complain about the terrible fonts for netscape and then the reply is (often enough) to use true-type fonts instead. In case you do not want true-type fonts though, there is an excellent set of fonts built specifically for Netscape that intentionally mimic the fonts that Netscape for windows uses. The set of fonts includes Times, Helvetica and Courier. Excellent. I recommend this to anyone who hasn't got true-type fonts. What a difference! Regards, Roy -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Where (in what directory) do you recommend installing these on a SuSE system? How did you get these to work? I have compiled and installed them in /usr/local/lib/fonts/Mozilla and then added the path to the xfsft config file. Is a choice suppose to be present in the list of fonts netscape will use? Thanks for any help?

Just read all of the README file... you also need to adjust Netscape (seems you didn't). The README file is well-written and extremely helpful. They are not true-type fonts, you need to put the directory in your font path. I put the line FontPath "/usr/local/lib/fonts/Mozilla/:unscaled" below the other FontPath lines in /etc/XF86Config, then restarted X. I tried these fonts. The docs suggest setting Nutscrape at a font size of 15. On my machine, that's HUGE. Even changing to 9, Google, for example, appears with very large fonts. For now, I've removed the FontPath from XF86Config. I wonder what I'm doing wrong. On Wed, 29 Mar 2000, David Porter wrote:

That's what I'm getting on Yahoo and some other sites. ZDnet looks great though. If you change the options in the fonts section to always use your default fonts it helps with the huge fonts a little. -- B. L. I set them to 12.

What, you don't like BIG fonts? ;-) That the regular fonts are so *tiny* was the only problem I had with them. Oh well, YMMV. david. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

~ it seems to make a difference, whether one puts the Path to Mozilla fonts, at the beginning, or, at the end of the Font Path in /etc/XF86Config. Does on need the characterization 'Unscaled', when one intends to Check the Box in Netscape Preferences, to Allow Scaling ? best ____________ sent on Linux ____________ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
