I tried to print a photo jpeg from in gimp. Somehow it does not recognize the printer setup and needs to be setup as well. Having done that I still only get a line of text on every third page when trying to print. Whats up?? I see. A guessing game ?? Provide a step-by-step explanation of what you did to setup your printer in gimp, and what you did to print and I'll attempt an answer but you just said that the sky was falling. I regularly print photo's from The GIMP with as good or better results as you can get from whinedohs, very nearly professional photo quailty. But, like nearly everything in linux, correct setup/operation is necessary. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org

I'm interested in this too. I print out photos as well, but it is a kind of guessing game. Yast sets up these lovely queues for me, photo and high quality and draft and such. In gimp, I can choose one of those queues. However, it displays each queue as Postscript level 2. When I change that to "Epson Stylus Photo 820" it then asks about resolution (dpi and stuff). Isn't that already set in the queue from YaST? But when I open YaST to see what it's set at, it all says "Controlled by Printout Mode". So, what do I set it to in the Gimp, and does it really use that or default to whatever the "Printout Mode" has it set at?? Thanks Patrick, Mike Sacco

No Gimp-print uses its own set of drivers and prints to a "raw" printer. You need to define the queues again in the Gimp which only have to be done once. This is because you are using gimp-print which users its own drivers.
Having done that I still only get a line of text on every third page when trying to print.
Did you define a printer? Did you choose the right ppd file for your printer in the setup printer dialog? What is the printer command listed there? Charles -- We are using Linux daily to UP our productivity - so UP yours! (Adapted from Pat Paulsen by Joe Sloan)
From Konqueror I select a print and openwith Gimp From Gimp / file / print i selected print setup and Selected HPIII clicked print

You didn't adjust the size of the print, type of paper, quality of print, type of ink (maybe doesn't apply for HPIII)? You don't say what verison of gimp-print? Did you test the print output after installing the HPIII? Did you set it to PS?
