[opensuse] OpenSuSE "Central" management system
Hey all, I'm looking to find a system which will allow me to administer multiple installs of OpenSuSE at once. As in, I would like to be able to administer packages, firewall configuration, etc, across all of the machines. I have around 20 PCs setup at the moment in a learning environment which although isn't very many, if this test goes well, I will have many more machines to administer in different areas. Previously, I have been writing shell scripts to do what I need and then going to each PC and downloading/running them, but this can be very time consuming. Any suggestions would be great, as I haven't yet been able to find a "package" which does what I require in these regards. Cheers -- Peter. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You're doing it the hard way. Put your script in a directory which is NFS-mounted by all of the machines then: for H in host1 host2 host3 host4 .... do rsh $H /path/to/remote_nfs_mount/to/script

I don't know of any such management package specific to openSUSE, but managing the configurations of several machines is usually about making sure all the config files are in sync: cfengine csync For operational management: munin nagios /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.com/ - your spam is our business. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Are these 20 PCs used for desktop apps only? If so, you could setup LTSP and then you would only need to manage the LTSP server. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
