[opensuse] Passing parameters to grub2 at boot time
I foolishly upgraded my graphics drivers and now have an unbootable system. It gets halfway through the boot sequence then produces a message about NVRAM over and over ad infinitum. It scrolls past too quickly to read. Anyway, what I'd like to do is boot into the machine in text mode (I think this used to be called runlevel 3, in legacy grub days), from where I could run yast and reinstall the correct graphics drivers. But, I don't how to do this. I've tried pressing 'c' to get to the grub> prompt, but don't know what to do next. [Tab] gives a list of options, but none of them seem relevant. -- Bob Williams -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

use "e" insetead of "c" ## for "edit" find the line which has kernel params similar to the old grub and add a "3" to the end, no quotes. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Patrick, Thank you. It didn't work, but I've noted your instructions for future use. I suppose installing all the wrong graphics kernel modules has mucked up the kernel. I'm now downloading the installation DVD to burn on my laptop and hopefully that will allow me to run YaST on the installed system.
