Yet Thunderbird is unable to connect.
Assuming it is unable to connect to port 119 - socket is not started as is obvious from output above.
However, disabling leafnode.socket, renaming /etc/xinetd.d/leafnode.rpmsave to /etc/xinetd.d/leafnode and reloading xinetd works instantly.

Sorry, it wasn't obvious to me that I had to manually start it. I thought only services were manually started, sockets would start when someone pinged the socket.
