problems in configuring a scanner with yast
Hello List, a couple of days ago I bought a new Canon Lide 20 scanner. Although sane supports this scanner fully, I was not able to use this scanner. To be more specific: I managed to install the scanner on my notebook within a few seconds without any problems. On my desktop and on my notebook I have almost the same configuration: Suse 9.3 with all You updates. On my desktop I' ve done the same steps as on my notebook: Plug in the USB cable -> new hardware found -> starting yast scanner module. This is the output: + Initializing scanner configuration + Read or create the scanner database -> Error, Aborting: Failed to create the scanner database I've tried to copy the sane files from the successful notebook installation to the desktop but unfortunately without any success. Unfortunately I did not find any hints in google, so maybe somebody has experienced the same problem before ... Thanks for any hints, Darko -- Darko Mocelj University of Basel Department of Physics and Astronomy Klingelbergstr. 82 CH-4056 Basel ------------------------------------------------------------------- Tel.: +41 61 267 37 85 Mail: darko.mocelj@unibas.ch Fax : +41 61 267 37 84 ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- -- Darko Mocelj University of Basel Department of Physics and Astronomy Klingelbergstr. 82 CH-4056 Basel ------------------------------------------------------------------- Tel.: +41 61 267 37 85 Mail: darko.mocelj@unibas.ch Fax : +41 61 267 37 84 -------------------------------------------------------------------

You asked the same question on the german list suse-linux@suse.com and I answered it there. For the others: YaST creates its scanner database by calling /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/create_scanner_database YCP and if this fails (activate "set -x" for a log), something strange is wrong on his system.
