[opensuse] Printer Configuration Tool Stuck Running y2base - Help
My HP LaserJet 1012 (USB) printer stopped. Output from the printer is a single sheet of paper with "Unsupported Personality: PCL". Started YaST2's Printer Configuration Tool. The Initializing Printer Configuration is at the Check database of printers A small window with the message: "The list of installed drivers has changed." "Building database of drivers..." Shows 4% and has been that way for at least 45 minutes. I'll wait a couple of hours. The program y2base is using 80-99% of the CPU with little signs of progress If anyone can give me a clue as to what to do next I'd be thankful. Hi Terry The 'stuck at 4%' bug is know and has been discussed. Robert Lewis posted this last Thursday.... "This has been discussed quite recently on this list and maybe seen in the archives. Of course with the volume of info. stuff is easily missed. This has been fairly common. See https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=229231. Short answer: try these rm /var/lib/YaST2/printers rm /var/lib/YaST2/ppd_db.ycp and then try again with Yast. This should rebuild the printer database and allow you to get going again." Worked for me. As for the other error, I'm afraid I can't help since I don't have that hardware. Oops, it already was a bug report, sorry Well, according to the bug report, it should be fixed in the next maintenance update of yast2-printer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks for all who replied. Since I did not have a lot invested in SuSE 10.2 configuration I decided to reinstall the system. (I was too impatient to wait for reply information, no big deal to install again). The above note from Hylton helps explain what happended to the printer. I guess if it happens again I'll just recycle the power to the printer.
