[SLE] Getting list of files w/ first few lines displayed
Running SuSe 9.2 Pro on a Pentium 4 box. Thanks to Bryan J. Smith, Mr. Banana, Randall R Schulz for your suggestions on how to solve the above-captioned problem. The file listing eventually worked out nicely with 'head' in a terminal session. Please forgive my ignorance about Nautilus: it is not listed in my application menus, so I assume it's not present on my system. How would I go about downloading it so as to be able to install it via Yast? You can just install it from your CDs or DVD - nautilus is on suse 9.2. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

You can just install it from your CDs or DVD - nautilus is on suse 9.2. Does that mean I have to do a re-install of SuSE 9.2 from my disks? jdh

No, it is just an additional application. In the windoz world it would be similar to purchasing an application and installing it onto your box. Only nautilus is provided within the SUSE package. Place your install DVD in a drive and open YaST2, select Software, then Software Management. Upper left, select Filter: Search in entry box for Search: nautilus you should be able to follow from there. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

It's not listed there, so not seeing it in your menu isn't an indication. Please note that nautilus, in addition to being a file manager, is also the application in charge of managing the desktop in gnome. If you use KDE and just run nautilus, you will find your desktop very strange and messy. Unless you run gnome, I would just stay away from nautilus if I were you. It's not worth it. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
